A cow is a large mammal that lives on farms all over the world. They are very important animals because they help people in many ways. Cows are known for being gentle and calm animals that like to live together in groups.

What Do They Look Like?

Cows are big and strong animals. They have four legs with hooves on their feet to help them walk on grass and mud. Most cows have short hair that can be many different colours, such as black, white, brown, or even spotted!
In the United Kingdom, you might see many different types of cows. The black and white ones are often Holstein Friesians, and they are famous for giving lots of milk. Some cows, like the Highland cow from Scotland, have very long, shaggy hair and big horns to keep them warm and safe in the cold mountains.

What Do Cows Eat?

Cows are herbivores, which means they only eat plants. Their favourite food is fresh green grass, but they also eat hay and grain during the winter.
