Honeybees are very busy insects that live together in large groups called colonies. Every bee has a special job to do to help the colony survive. The queen bee is the leader, and her only job is to lay eggs so more bees can be born. Worker bees have many tasks, such as cleaning the hive and finding food. To find food, they fly to flowers to collect nectar and pollen. While they move from flower to flower, they carry pollen on their legs, which helps new plants grow.
When a worker bee finds a good patch of flowers, she goes back to the hive and performs a special "waggle dance." This dance tells the other bees exactly where the flowers are located. Inside the hive, bees turn the nectar they found into sweet honey, which they store in wax cells. Honey is the food that keeps the colony alive during the cold winter months. Without honeybees, we would not have many of the fruits and vegetables we eat today. These tiny insects are a very important part of our world.
