[1] On Saturday morning, Sam and his dad went to the hardware store. They bought three long boards and a small can of bright blue paint. Sam was excited to build a home for the birds in their backyard.
[2] When they got home, they went straight to the garage. Dad used a ruler to measure the wood. Then, he used a saw to cut the boards into six smaller pieces. Sam held the wood steady while Dad worked.
[3] Next, it was time to put the pieces together. Dad held the boards in place, and Sam carefully hammered the nails. Bang! Bang! Bang! Soon, the wooden birdhouse was ready to be painted.
[4] Sam opened the blue paint. He used a big brush to cover the birdhouse in bright color. It looked beautiful! However, they couldn't hang it up yet because the paint was still wet and sticky.
[5] They placed the blue birdhouse on a table in the sun. They went inside to eat lunch while they waited for the paint to dry. Sam checked it every few minutes, but he was patient.
[6] Finally, the paint was dry and smooth. Dad grabbed a ladder and a piece of rope. They walked to the big oak tree and tied the birdhouse to a high branch. Sam smiled happily as a bird landed on the roof.
