Humayun was a very important king in a place called India. He was the second leader of the Mughal Empire. His father was the famous King Babur. Humayun became king when he was twenty-two years old. He was a kind man who loved reading books and looking at the stars at night.
Humayun had a big job. He had to look after the land his father had won. But he had some problems. He had three brothers named Kamran, Askari, and Hindal. Sometimes his brothers did not help him. They wanted to be kings too! Humayun also had a strong enemy named Sher Shah Suri.
Sher Shah Suri was a brave soldier. He fought Humayun in two big battles. In the second battle, Humayun lost his kingdom. He had to leave India and travel far away. It was a very hard time for him. He had to walk through hot deserts and over cold mountains. He did not have a palace anymore.
Humayun went to a country called Persia. There, he met another king named Shah Tahmasp. The Shah was very friendly. He gave Humayun soldiers and horses to help him. Humayun stayed in Persia for many years, but he never forgot India. He wanted to go back and be king again.
After fifteen years, Humayun returned to India with his new army. He fought hard and won his kingdom back in the year 1555. He was so happy to be home! He built a beautiful library in Delhi because he still loved books very much. He spent many hours reading and learning new things.
One day, in 1556, Humayun was in his library. He heard the call for prayer. As he was hurrying down the stone stairs, he tripped and fell. Sadly, King Humayun died from his fall. Even though he was only king again for a short time, people remember him as a brave man who never gave up. He showed that even if you lose something, you can work hard to get it back.
