Story Elements: Grade 2 Reading Comprehension Fable and Organizer

Pip was a tiny squirrel with a big appetite. Barnaby was a giant bear with a kind heart. They lived in the Golden Forest. It was October, and the leaves were bright orange. Pip wanted the big nuts at the top of the tall oak tree. But Pip was too small to climb that high safely without falling. Barnaby wanted the sweet berries on the forest floor. But Barnaby was too big to see where the best berries grew among the fallen leaves.
"Let's help each other!" Pip squeaked. Pip climbed the tall tree and tossed the big nuts down to Barnaby. Then, Barnaby used his long nose to find the hidden berry bushes for Pip. They both had a full belly by sunset. They learned that by working together, everyone gets what they need.
